I’m a mathematician who likes to build things. My main research areas have been in category theory and sheaves, but I am most interested now in making these things usable by non-specialists.

I believe that, in an age of AI acceleration and many demoralization campaigns by certain actors, people who build things should try to make things that help people continue to see their value as human beings, that give them more autonomy not less, that help them think harder and not take away their need to think, and that help people have more fun rather than succumb to fear. In the end, I believe that life is fun and you should try to stay optimistic.

By day, I also work at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in an applied AI group. Before that, I was a National Research Council postdoc there. In a past life, I was a philosopher and have taught a wide range of courses, from logic and the ethics of technology to oddities I’m still fond of, like the philosophy of chess and the ethics of computer games.
